Spider

This spider has been hanging out at Gwen’s for the past couple of nights. It’s pretty big–about three inches long. It spins a very large orb that it dismantles every morning sometime between 7:30 and 8:30. No luck identifying it so far.

  1. I found the same kind of spider while walking my dog. It’s freaking huge! I had to collect it in a big plastic container and give it breathing holes. It was right outside my neighbor’s porch where my dog Chyna and their kids play. I’m worried that it could do some damage if it bites.

By the way, it’s not a golden orb spider, I’ve already checked. It’s not a brown widow or brown recluse either. Let me know if you can identify it, my e-mail is dangergirlblu@hotmail.com, or my work e-mail is golfcar@bellsouth.net. I’ll keep you updated as well. PS, where are you located, I found it in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA

  2. Hey, I had a spider that looked just like yours pop up on my porch in G-ville, FL. According to U.F. entomology spider expert Dr. Edwards, it is a tropical orb weaver. Eriophora ravilla, family Araneidae, which are known to make nocturnal orbwebs. These are not dangerous to people. Have fun.
