What a fantastic thing to have. I'm jealous.

I went to the US military's Defense Language Institute (DLI) in the late 80s/early 90s. DLI was started in WWII to train Japanese translators/interpreters, and they had a museum with lots of materials similar to that dictionary. Unfortunately, I hadn't started studying Japanese yet (I was there for Spanish), so I didn't appreciate them as much as I would today.

As for rainwater collection, the realtor you spoke to might not be the best spokesperson for the development ;)

One thing that might be interesting is the Pecan Street Project - it's aims include a Smart Irrigation plan - not too sure on the details yet.
It would certainly feel less suburban here to me if there wasn't so much grass and irrigation in the small parts of the neighborhood - even if the grass is watered from "reclaimed water".

I like public parks as much as the next parent, but all the small grass annoys me.

Adam, I hope you're going for horizontal stripes, not vertical ones.

Hey Adam, thanks for stopping by. I agree with you - people who don't like it don't have to live here. M1EK's point about it being public land is very valid. The builders make what sells easily, quickly and for the most profit while maintaining their reputation.

I enjoy looking at other developments like SOL Las Casas Verde, and baddmom has a point, the speed and scale of what happened here has largely meshed with production builders. The Garden Courts / Streetman townhomes are a little different - and in smaller numbers.

I'm going to save my water rant for a separate post as they apparently get truncated.

My biases: I live here and I'm a realtor / EcoBroker

Adam, you should also check out OutFront by Map My Tracks. Our app was released just around the time of this blog post so you may not have seen it.

Would love to know what you think of it.

I think the deliverables will use something very like PastryKit or TuneKit. You probably know more about what authoring tools are available out there, but if there isn't one already well-adapted to a high-volume professional environment that doesn't involve writing code by hand, there will need to be one, and I am guessing Apple may step in with their own.

Apple has already created their own whizzy wig HTML editor—iWeb—but it's obviously way at the opposite end of the spectrum from "high-volume professional."

Not sure they need an authoring tool, since plenty of those already exist to create HTML5 apps.

Maybe it'll be a framework derived from PastryKit?

I recently requested a multilingual brochure that I provided English translations for. It wasn't a pretty sight considering it had been "incorrected" to the hilt.

In my experience, most Japanese native proofreaders react very well to Engrish they can relate to. :-)
