Apparently <a href=\"http:\/\/www.the-brights.net\/\">brights<\/a> has been co-opted as a catch-all term to describe agnostics, atheists, etc. It sounds a little too airy-fairy for my tastes&#8211;and indeed, following the model of &#8220;gay&#8221; for homosexual, it was coined to put a cheery word to a ghettoized social group. <\/p>\n<p>In June, Richard Dawkins, who has never been shy about describing himself as an atheist, <a href=\"http:\/\/books.guardian.co.uk\/review\/story\/0,12084,981412,00.html\">used the term<\/a>. More recently, Daniel Dennet <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2003\/07\/12\/opinion\/12DENN.html?ex=1059120486&#38;ei=1&#38;en=3fefa8f228da7340\">came out<\/a>.
